This applies regardless of skills though. In an OD&D game if I roleplay how my character casts a fireball but my character sheet says level 2 fighter, the GM doesn't let me cast a fireball.

True old school is the GM saying your character drowns because the rulebook doesn't say anyone can swim and therefore... :devilish:

Im my experience having no skills at all means every player instead has a skill called "Guess what the GM thinks you can do" and your rating in it varies from moment to moment :)

With the new DoD coming out and a rash of games in recent years (HT, Kopparhavet etc.) for BRP fans, what is your go-to game for now? Is it likely to change in the near future? I am including both "true BRP" (Runequest, Call of cthulhu), BRP related or closely based (HT, Pendragon) and post-BRP...

I suspect some of the heartburn people are having is that the new game is aimed at being more similar to a pulp adventure game. To use a literary reference, the new game is shaping up to be more Conan or Solomon Kane and less Aragorn or Sparhawk.
