Also, and this may be just a language issue for me, but can someone give an example of when you would roll Leta instead of Spana and vice versa for skills?

    Magic house rules. DoD Expert/91

For a while back in the day pre-Expert, we played it that Effect 1 spells worked automatically which worked pretty well.

That both explains it perfectly and if I hadnt just bought both, I'd be buying them now based on this

    Järn vs Hjältarnas tid

Maybe I can use this thread to ask a couple of rules questions for HT as well if you guys dont mind. A: I was going to ask how many times you can defend in one round but from the conversation above, it seems the rulebook answer is "as often as you get attacked" ? (Provided you are able to...

    Buying this one today, thanks.

I seem to recall a comment in an issue of Sinkadus that the "new" prices were supposed to match the prices in a book on medieval economics but I think that's bogus. Yeah, easy peasy. i dig.

    Järn vs Hjältarnas tid

Thats reminiscent of Harn where repeated defense rolls are at -20 each time. though in most games, it is rather rare for a character to be attacked by more than 2-3 opponents I think.

Appreciate the suggestions so far and keep them going. I will definitely be taking a closer look at Matine

I think culture gaming was probably the term I was looking for, yeah.

I like the idea of using PSY for initiative. Mental preparation and a bit of luck. I'll ponder that. If you want to still reflect reaction speed make it the average of PSY and INT (or even just add them together if you want the die roll to matter a bit less) What I think I am going with for...

    Järn vs Hjältarnas tid

Paging through Järn I got a heavy tribal Runequest vibe from it, while HT seemed a bit more generic fantasy in feeling. Is that a fair assessment?

I was just on the helmgast site ordering a couple things and very eagerly looking for a "buy" option for Kopparhavet :) I shall await duck PC's sadly.

    Järn vs Hjältarnas tid

Apologies for English.Feel free to respond in English or Swedish as you prefer. Is there a decent overview of these games compared to each other? Looking at the books I got in the mail, they look very similar and I believe were derived from each other? Are there obvious advantages to starting...

List of Swedish BRP/post-BRP "classic revival" game systems?

Apologies for English, you are welcome to respond in Swedish or English as you prefer. I am looking for a list of Swedish RPG systems released in the past 10 years or so that fit the following conditions: A: Are derived from BRP, even if somewhat distantly (I'd say f.x.Hjältarnas tid is...

    Magic house rules. DoD Expert/91

This is certainly a concern, though I feel tackling that up front rather than delaying it through XP requirements might be a better solution. I could well be wrong though! Some limits on how many spells you can have "active" at one time might solve most of the stacking problems.

I'm not sure either to be honest. Even with BRP games, magic usually just happens on your "go". To be honest, we never quite understood how it was supposed to really work in the 1987 black box either. Its an action to "prepare a spell" and an action to cast it, I think? We took one look at that...

How would you handle casting time? Back in the day, we always made spells take effect at the end of the turn they are cast (with Kvick casting on your initiative roll like any other action). Oh, will definitely take a look at that, that sounds very cool. Always a sucker for more BRP :)
