I den här tråden diskuterar jag Gudar och städer till mitt lilla rollspel som jag tänkt köra med Eon IVs regelsystem.

Nedan följer min beskrivning av staden Eres och dess matron-goddess, Eris. Allt är på engelska, eftersom sambon min knappt talar svenska i nuläget. Lite feedback vore najs, hade lite svårt faktiskt för att komma på coola mirakel och förbannelser åt kaos-gudinnan. Vilken besvikelse!

Cityname: Eres
Patron Goddess: Eris
Location: Southern Sardinia
Current leader: Consul Aelia of family Cassian and Consul Laurentia of family Ovidius, taking turns to govern every twelth week(season change).
Political system: Republic since a hundred years back where the wealthiest citizens get to vote for senators who then elect two consuls who alternate ruling the city every change of season. After five years a new election is held.
Society: A society where family means a lot to its citizens and yet there is hardly a nobility. Whatever family is blessed by Eris could for one generation have senators, generals and wealthy merchants in its blood only to find fifty years later that they are nothing but beggars and lepers, shunned by many and forgotten by all but their own. No specific laws exist in Eres to protect those of high birth as it does in the other cities, which have created some of the more industrious patricians that the Mediterranean has to offer. Being wealthy in Eres does not come from having the right name or from being born in the right place, it comes from your own performance and that is something that the people of Eres cherish. As a side-effect, people who are slaves and poor are often looked down upon, having no one to blame but themselves for their misery. Women and men are fairly equal in Eres, all can be blessed and all can be shunned, and wealthy men have the right to vote just as the women do. The only shut gates for men are those of senators, consuls and naturally priestesses of Eres.
Economic situation: Placed on Sardinia the city of Eres relies on fisheries and the fertile plains to give them a steady supply of food. Additionally, there are rich silver and lead mines on several locations on the island, giving the merchants and miners valuable goods to trade with. A good location in the centre of the Mediterranean also makes Eres a natural hub for foreign traders and travellers alike. Sadly, widespread corruption and internal strife has made it hard for Eres as a whole to benefit from this situation, so while there are some very wealthy merchant families in Eres the city as a whole is still considered somewhat backwater compared to many other nations, ruins and memories of a much grander past.
Military situation: Eres holds one of the weaker armies of the Mediterranean, both in numbers and in quality. A rather sizable trade-fleet could in theory be converted into military vessels and numerous pirate-hunting expeditions to both Siciliy and Malta has made their sailors skilled and able in open waters. There are rumours of a military unit called Bellona's chosen, trained in secrecy ever since The Great Storm, carrying the same name as an infamous unit who during The Great Strife seemed to do war for no mistress and attacked anyone they came across.

Religion: Worshipping the Goddess of chaos and discord can be difficult and unrewarding at times while at others you can find yourself in luck over night. As such the worshippers of Eris care little for fate, carving their own path in the same industrious way that their politicians try and govern their nation. The priestess who spent her entire life praying for an answer find that the acolyte who joined just a week ago has already found hers, because the acolyte did something different, something more daring, something more clever. The woman who carried misscarriage twice will try again, finding that the stroke of bad luck will release from her eventually and the merchant who lost all his goods in a bad trade will try again tomorrow but with more cunning, for it is not his fate to fail. It is said that bitterness is so rare in Eres that even arugula is sweet.
As for doctrine and organisation, the temples of Eris are no place for random visitors and does not commonly hold any large rooms of prayer. Rather, they are secluded institutions, interesting only for the priestesses and scholars who come there to learn more of their Goddess. Because of this, the temples are quite distant to many people in Eres and instead Eris's words and history are spread by street-preachers, people of multiple talents who often perform songs, dances and more, either of religious nature or other, in return for some coin. When it comes to personal prayer and worship, most people hold a small altar in their home and carry small icons, the Cross of Eris, on bracelets and necklaces. Eris does not mind if you thank her for good fortunes or curse her for the bad, as long as you recognize that it was her doing. Those she curses and those she blesses are not people that she holds a particularily ill will against or look up to, rather they seem to be chosen more or less at random, which at times can be very benificial and at other times not. The only thing that is true is that holding a position gives your power and respect, because Eris has chosen you. Losing it means Eris does not favour you anymore, and you can quickly lose friends, contacts and powerful allies. Not forever though, for as much as Eris can shun you, she might very well welcome you back in the future, when it suits her.
Religious structure: Hiearchies does not rhyme well with the Goddess of chaos, and as such there are essentially only three ranks within the temple of Eris. Childer, which is given to anyone who is accepted into the order, Learned which you attain after serving faithfully for at least five years and pass a series of tests. Finally there is the Voice of Eris, which is only given to Learned who have proved themselves somehow to the other Voices. Indeed, to become a Voice of Eris yourself five other Voices must vouch for you and you hold the position for as long as Eris sees it fit that you do. The voices then govern the temple grounds, letting different Learned run most of the day to day administration while the Voices spend their time in prayer and religious discussion. It is said that there is no worse place to be than amongst other Voices, as the discord, rivalry and bullying that hides within those walls are as brutal as you'd expect from an organisation without a clear leader.
Goddess' relation to her city: Eris walks the halls of her temple more often than not, sliding forward in the shadows, her hair dancing and flowing in different directions as often as a human would breathe. She whispers advice to her followers and rarely gives out orders of her own, rather prefering to implant the seeds of ideas into the minds of her worshippers and then let them act out upon it. At times she has been seen slipping out through the cracks of the temples, in particular at night, and visit different inhabitants of her city. One night she was spotted with a toothless beggar, talking and whispering to him for hours, and the next day he was found with two rows of golden teeth in his mouth, one of the wealthiest men in Eres. The next night she would visit the high commander of the Eres forces and on the third the consul.
Goddess appearance: Eris is appears as an attractive woman who has been blessed with eternal youth. Her dark eyes see through the soul of anyone she looks at, reading their hearts and desires like an open book. Pale, smooth skin and dark hair with red strands in it gives stark contrasts and upon her lips a sly, cunning smile wanders more often than not. Her dark hair dances from side to side, waving up and down, as if she was permanently held under water, and it is common for her to shift position and stance when interacting with her followers, enjoying to float out of one window and then entering from another, all while participating in whatever conversation they had. Her left shoulder is adorned with a so-called Cross of Eris, the most common symbol of worship to her.
Miracles and curses: Miracles given to the priestesses of Eris often offer worshippers the ability to do the unexpected and the things that should not be. A few examples of this would be to stir a storm on a calm day, to make the chaste man desire a woman to point of madness or to make the greedy merchant give away all her wealth to beggars. Her ability to sow discord is also known in all the legends and as such the priestesses of Eris are able to seed illoyal thoughts, wroth, lust and greed in people where you would not expect it. Finally, the priestess of Eris are known to be able to shape-shift into any form, able to change gender, frame and even species, a very useful tool when needing to extract knowledge or spy on your enemies.

Om du vill ha en mer modern tolkning av Eris finns ju Discordianismen och dess huvudverk Principia Discordia.

Angående magi som en Erisian bör ha: saker som orsakar bråk är ju givna. Äpplet i bilden är ju äpplet som orsakade Trojanska Kriget. Det skulle kunna sträcka sig från det mer direkta i form av order att slå sin kompis eller D&D-lik confusion, till mer långvariga och subtila avdrag på slag för sociala färdigheter.

Underbart. Givetvis borde hon ha både "confusion"-style från D&D samt långvariga effekter. Miraklet borde ju kunna sättas mellan två mål samtidigt, säg typ "Denna konung och hans hustru", och därefter får de sociala avdrag mot varandra, glädje blir vrede, lust blir svartsjuka, broderskärlek blir svartsjuka etc.
