Hej!
StarCraft/Firebrand Setting
The Firebrand setting is loosely based on the start of StarCraft 1 and contains many of the factions, technologies and ideologies from there.
It is mostly the setting we're keeping the setting though. There is no plan to re-create the StarCraft story, and to avoid having messiah-like figures running the show (Raynor, Kerrigan, ...) or worrying about hundreds of minor characters, we're simply cutting most of them. You will see many of the factions and a lot of familiar themes however.
Major Factions
These are the largest and most active knownfactions at the campaign's starting point.
Terran Confederacy
The Terran Confederacy is a imperialistic authoritarian empire. Their military is both highly advanced and larger than any of the other Terran factions.
Their capital is Tarsonis, though they control many colonies.
Kelanis Shipping Guild
The Kelanis Shipping Guild is a ruthlessly capitalist trade guild. They are known for employing all kinds of underhanded tactics to have things their way.
They originate from Moria
Morian Mining Coalition
The Morian Mining Coalition is rumored to have started out as a slave-trader. They are by far the greatest provider of minerals and control huge installations on both planets and asteroids throughout the Koprulu sector.
They originate from Moria.
Kel-Morian Combine
This is the name of the somewhat shaky alliance between the Kelanis Shipping Guild and Morian Mining Coalition. The coalition was formed to protect against percieved threats from the Terran Confederacy.
Notable Planets/Regions
This lists the three 'most important' planets for the Terrans.
Tarsonis
This somewhat inhospitable planet was one of the three planets accidentally colonisedby humans. It is the capital of the Terran Confederacy.
It is rumored that the Supercarrier which landed here was populated by humans rejected due to genetic alteration, cybernetics, use of certain psychoactive drugs or otherwise 'impure' humans according to the United Powers League on Earth.
Moria
Moria is an exceptionally inhospital, yet mineral rich planet. The inhospitable condition of the planetis probably a contributing factor to the Terrans here being among the first of start colonizing other planets.
It is rumored that the Supercarrier which accidentally landed here was populated largely by criminals.
Umoja
Umoja is a fairly hospitable planet which lies at the fringe of Terran space. It is notable for two Supercarriers landing here, one of which was disproportionally populated by expelled scientists. This suppercarrier had a fatal error during landing and the resulting crash killed all passengers. The other carrier is rumored to have been mostly populated by criminals and dissentients.
Fringe Worlds
The Fringe Worlds comprise a belt of frontier planets at the farthest reaches of the Terran Confederacy's political control. They are stereotyped as isolationists and poorly educated. They often used as cheap labour and cannon fodder by the Terran Confederacy.
Outer Colonies
These colonies astrogeographicallyoverlap somewhat with the Fringe Worlds. Revolts are common in the outer colonies, even more so now that the navy is distracted by a cold war between the Terran Confederact and the Kel-Morian Combine. Due to the overall instability of the region a lot of 'dangerous' individuals have chosen to hide here.
The Firebrand Company
This is the mercenary company which the campaign starts out will all Player Characters being members of. The Firebrand Company is a small mercenary navy formed mostly from militia groups and pirate-hunters from the Outer Colonies.
Player Characters
Player characters can be anyone who the Firebrand Company could see themselves wanting to employ. To help give an idea of what is possible we'll provide some examples below

Player Characters
Player characters can be anyone who the Firebrand Company could see themselves wanting to employ. To help give an idea of what is possible we'll provide some examples below
- Elite Marine. Marines are usually huge men who have abused various drugs from an early age to grow larger and more muscular than normally possible. Most of these drugs dull the mind, though more advanced genetic modification and higher-quality drugs may have less side-effects.
- Cybernetic Soldier. Cybernetics is very common among some mercenaries, ocular implants are particularly common. While most cybernetics is quite blunt and dirty the technology varies greatly. A rare few replace almost their entire bodies yet remain fairly human-looking. Or not even remotely human looking. The second is probably the most common.
- GHOST. GHOSTs or other psionic operatives can wield a varying array of powerful psionics. Human psionics require special inhibitor implants in order to avoid hearing other human thoughts and unintentionally broadcasting their own. For this reason most powerful psionic mercenaries are either 'missing' GHOSTs or have otherwise been found by a 3rd party and implanted with an inhibitor. Psionics is often hereditary, and is hugely more common in populations originating from Tarsonis.
- AI. Artificial Intelligences come in all shapes, forms and varying degrees of actual intelligence. All AIs are to some degree hardware dependent and cannot leave their 'computer' behind so to say. Some AIs can infect and take control over other systems and even remotely control them without transferring their conscience. Scientists claim that worries about AIs taking over is absurd. Smart AIs are too expensive to train and produce. Even clone soldiers were abandoned in favor for the 'talent' from the Fringe Worlds. It would not be wise for AIs to become high-profile leaders however.
- Specialists. Expert Pilot? Scientist with robot assistants? Perhaps diplomat with great wealth and powerful contacts? If it makes sense in the context the campaign it is probably fine.
