Hi!

Strid introduces a bunch of new and cool combat options and armour options. I, being a geek of medieval armour, have enjoyed very much the granularity introduced in armour options.

There is something that left me wondering though. Strid introduces many more body locations (26 in total) and the rules open the door to wear armour that does not fully cover a given body location. For, example you can have your shoulders and upper arms covered by armor, but not the rest of the arms. In such situations, if an attack strikes a partially covered body location, the attacker "only" needs to generate 2 Övertag to ignore the armour of that location by buying the Precision [2/3] fördel. I can use even more extreme examples, for example a character has the arms (I use the arm as an example but it can be any body location) fully armoured but for the elbow for example. Again, an attacker that strikes that location "only" needs to generate 2 Övertag to buy Precision to pick up the elbow as the struck location and ignore the armour. Even if the attack does not hit that location, it hits the body for example, the attacker can spend 3 Övertag to buy Precision to pick up the elbow. On the other hand, the Finna blotta [4] fördel costs 4 Övertag. It seems to me that Finna blotta is going to see little use within the Strid rules unless the defender is fully armoured without any gap.

Am I missing something here? is this an intended design of the rules?

I am asking this because while I like the granularity introduced in armour options in Strid, my players do not and they want to stick to the head, body, arms and legs body locations. To find a compromise, I want to make some house rules for armour where you can partially cover a body location using the Partiell X, Rustningsegenskaper. For example, a gauntlet would be a piece of plate armour that protects the arm with Partiell 3, or a set of spauldrons with vambracers would be a piece of plate armour that protects the arm with Partiell 1. But seeing how the Precision fördel interacts with a partially protected body area in the rules as written makes me think if this house rule is valid.

I think you can definitely use Partiell without using the detailed "hit-map" (and the same goes for its opposite, Tät).

I personally don't see the issue with Precision being cheaper than Finna blotta, and maintain that Finna blotta still has a use. For example, a strike in the torso won't ever be able to be resolved without using Finna blotta.

In addition, I don't think a lot of people are fully armoured on their arms except for their elbows - it is more likely they are fully armoured except for some spots that are slightly more vulnerable. At that point an attacker has to consider if penetrating the armour fully is better than hitting a slightly less armoured location.

As such, I don't see it as a bug that it is easier to hit unarmed hands than it is to find an opening in a pair of full-plate gauntles - I think its a feature. The risk you're taking by wearing less, or lighter, armour is that you open yourself up for getting hit in those spots after all.
