Liten kantbaron
In my chronicle, bestial crits seem to happen in combat quite often. In such situations, it feels natural for them to mean that the player character goes into frenzy - but then the player lose control over their character, and don't get to play them. I think that's boring. I wanna come up with something better.
How can I make frenzy a state that limits how you can play your character, or costs you something, rather than hands the character over to the gamemaster? I was gonna post this question on a Swedish discussion board first, because people there are so good with rules systems...but I then thought you guys might have interesting ideas, too, being Vampire experts after all.
Random ideas:
what if you never suffer stains while frenzying? This would encourage players to really go all out. Maybe each stain you would suffer instead becomes willpower damage? But then there needs to be some other reward for doing bestial things when frenzying, the encouragement isn't great enough.
Alternatively, perhaps the opposite - each stain you suffer while frenzying gives you back willpower? Still not compelling enough perhaps, because stains are such a dangerous currency that just taking one is quite a lot...
Other variants would be more "sophisticated", Kindred of the East-style frenzies, like your convictions being reversed, or having an extra set of convictions and desires for frenzy mode. Hmm...I like the latter idea there...it would mean you get away with more while frenzying, and you could regain more willpower by trying to fulfil your frenzy desire - which would of course be something dreadful.
