I'd rather be different than indifferent.
Här försöker jag förklara hur man använder ett polart koordinatsystem för positionsangivelser. Är jag begriplig?
Geography and Navigation
The Midmost Archipelago is a huge cluster of big and small islands surrounded by the Rimward Ocean. It is turn surrounded by the O-shaped landmass called the Rim. This vast continent’s outer edge is delimited by the World-encircling Mountains, a seemingly insurmountable range of dark peaks that reach far into the sky.
This geography has encouraged a particular approach to mapping and compass directions. The mid-pole is located at a specific point on a particular island in the middle of the Midmost Archipelago and it is considered to be the literal center of the world.
For navigational purposes, the mid-pole serves as the pole in a polar coordinate system. The polar axis has been defined as the ray (a straight line) running from the mid-pole through a particular obelisk in in the old Imperial capital. After the fall of the Empire, everyone continued to use this arrangement because it is practical for scientists and navigators.
The four basic “compass directions” are therefore:
•Midward: the ray (“direction”) straight to the mid-pole.
•Rimward: the opposite of midward.
•Rightward: when facing rimward, rightward is straight to the observer’s right, i.e. clockwise around the mid-pole.
•Leftward: when facing rim-ward, left-ward is straight to the observer’s left, i.e. counter-clockwise around the mid-pole.
Example: The geographical coordinates for a particular location consists of its distance (in leagues) from the mid-pole and the angle between the polar axis and the ray running from the mid-pole through that the location. If you picture the coordinate system as a clock with the ray of the polar axis running from the center through 12, a coordinate could be listed as for instance 2.25 rightward, 453.65 rimward.
