###

THE ONE GAME
This setup doesn’t assume whether you have a GM. This is up to you.
References to “players” are therefore ambiguous - read it as you prefer.

Conflict
What is the central conflict?
Person against Person: war, politics, love, drama.
Person against Nature: survival, travel, exploration, discovery.
Person against Society: oppression, inequality, persecution, freedom.
Person against Self: depression, anxiety, sports, challenge.
Person against Technology: fire, knights, tanks, singularity.
Person against Fate: destiny, chosen one, omens, catastrophe.
Person against Mythology: gods, demons, good and evil, magic.
Person against External Threat: invasion, pandemic, genocide, doom.
Person against the Unknown: You don’t know what the conflict is. You must find out.

Setup
Who are you?
Troupe: each player plays multiple characters.
Party: players each play one character and the characters cooperate.
Opposed: players each play one character and the characters are opposed.
Yourself: players each play one character representing themselves.
Flipped: players each play one character and the characters are part of the opposition.
Separated: players each play one character and the characters are not in the same place.
Narrated: players narrate what was, not what is.
Family: players each play one character, part of the same family.
Cooperative: players together play a single character.

Character Creation
How do you create characters?
Point-Buy: you spend points on attributes and skills.
Lifepath: you select a number of backgrounds.
Random: you roll dice to see who you are.
Group: you make characters together.
Foiling: you make characters as narrative opposites.
Auction: you get X points to bid on character features in an auction.
Class: pick a class from the ones available.
Secret: pick a secret agenda and a public identity.
In-Game: grab a sheet, fill out numbers as you need them in play.

Resolution
What type of resolution do you use?
Conflict: you roll for an escalating conflict.
Action: you roll for each individual action.
Intention: you roll to reach the goals of an overall intention.
Method: you roll to determine the result of a specific method.
Control: you roll to gain control over gameplay artifacts.
Effect: you roll to achieve the highest effect.
Opposition: you roll against another roll.
Negotiation: you don’t roll, you negotiate.
Momentum: you roll to gain successes; successes carry over to future rolls.

###

Stake
What’s at stake for the characters?
Survival: characters can die.
Face: characters can be humiliated.
Improvement: characters can get better.
Treasures: characters can find useful objects.
Relations: characters can improve and degrade important relationships.
Secrecy: characters can lose and gain secrets.
Progress: characters can work towards a clear goal.
Renown: characters can achieve fame or infamy.
Sanity: characters can lose their minds.
