Fantasyfilmer som tar sig själva på allvar är någorlunda vanliga (i genren): Excalibur, Conan 1, Ladyhawke...
Åtminstone delar av publiken tog dessa på allvar. Däremot är det först nyligen som filmkritiker ens försökt ta en enda fantasyfilm på allvar.
Brukar inte "Jason and the Argonauts" eller "Det gyllene skinnet" som den även heter, hyllas för sina specialeffekter som verkligen är troligtvis det allra bästa som någonsin gjorts vad gäller stop-motion.

Jo, så är det nog. Specialeffekter har länge premierats om de varit välgjorda. Men det har inte hindrat kritikermajoriteten från att länge avfärda filmerna i stort som allmänt fåniga (eller i bästa fall som underhållande barnfilmer).

Det är ju inte många som lovprisat filmerna för att vara välspelade eller väl regisserade direkt.
