Me and my players have problems understanding /interpreting the following sentence in page 49 of the Magi book:

"Magikern kan även minska omfånget för att avsiktligt exkludera vissa individer i kanten av omfånget – exempelvis vänner för en skadlig besvärjelser eller fiender för en stärkande besvärjelse."

What does it mean that the mage can deliberately reduce the size of the area to exclude targets? Does it mean that it can be reduced one or more steps?
For example from Medelstort område to Litet område or Mycket litet område?

I interpret the Swedish text to mean that you can distort the shape a bit so that you don't also hit others that are just on the border of the affected area. No mechanical change, beyond distorting the shape of the affected area. Like someone taking a bite out of a cookie shaped area before using it as a hit template.

We think it means that as well, but it is a degree of freedom that is often difficult for me, as the GM, to deal with in order not to be abused.

I think the main use for this is to be able to exclude yourself from a spell with overlapping range and target. If you use an offensive spell with range Kort covering an area of size Litet (i.e. everything within range Kort) then you can use it without being affected yourself if the centre of the spell is at range Kort by reducing the area by just a bit.
