- Create a character connected to the premise and the problem the game will be about.
- Create a character with human weaknesses. Someone you care about. Think about the character in different everyday situations.
- Skip what you as a player don't care about.
Concept. Who or what you are. Origin and occupation. Something unique that makes you special and sets you apart. Something that makes you as a player interested in the character and that you want the game to be about.
Drive. Desire, dreams and passion. Makes you feel something, to act, and to expose yourself to hardship and danger. What do you want? Why? What is stopping you?
Goals. Concrete and short-term goals you strive for. Can be achieved within one or two game sessions. Is there a problem or a difficult situation?
Flaws and Distractions. Causes difficulties for you. Can be in the Concept. E.g. flaw, vulnerability, obligation or responsibility, follies, phobias (lingering irrational fear), manias (obsession or compulsion about a subject).
Character traits and Personality. Can be concretized in a sentence.
Quirks. Behaviour, routine, bad habit, or interest.
Relations to player characters. May contain tension and conflict but you must be able to work together. Come up with 1-2 “which of you” questions about history, emotion, relation, connection, or opinion for the other characters. Can be concept related. E.g. “which of you has hired me for my services?”
Relations to NPCs. An important person or friend whom you want to help and protect. A rival, competitor, opponent, or enemy. Contacts. The group can have different relationships to the same NPC.
Home. Do you have a home, your own house? Are there family members or a significant other?
Traumatic event. It has disrupted your normal life, which can't continue as usual. All characters can have the same event.
