Hi folks,
I am looking for a pen-and-paper roleplaying game group in Gothenburg (Göteborg) that does their sessions in English.
If you (reader) are not looking for players yourself, but know of other groups that possibly might, then I would appreciate contact information to them as well.
I read and understand Swedish fairly well, and can make myself understood in Swedish (although I sound like a drunken Norwegian) (I have lived in Sweden for 1 year). But I am yet to develop Swedish writing skills. The reason for the English restriction is that to be able to convincingly roleplay a character, one must have good control over the language that character speaks (choice of words, slang, accent, swearing, politeness, etc.). Which I don't have in Swedish.
My name is Willard, and I am a 28 year old PhD student (computer science) at Chalmers. I am from Iceland, and have lived in Denmark for 10 years prior to moving to Gothenburg.
In my spare time I study math and computer science, listen to music (mostly (death) metal, such as Acid Bath, Atheist, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Finntroll), play a bit of bass, watch movies/series both good (Alien, Firefly, Donnie Darko, Big Fish, Avatar) and so-bad-its-good (Manos: Hands of Fate, Death Bed: The Bed that Eats, Lexx, The Toxic Avenger, Die Hard Dracula, Basket Case, ...) ones, read books (sci-fi and fantasy mostly, from authors like Isac Asimov, William Gibson, Douglas Adams, R.A.Salvatore, and whoever-wrote-the-Icelandic-sagas), and play an occational computer game (Dragon Age currently).
I have played pen-and-paper roleplaying games since I was 13 years old (so I am fairly seasoned). The games I have played include
* D&D 3rd edition
* GURPS (my personal favorite system)
* Call of Cthulhu
* Shadowrun
* Conspiracy X
* AD&D
* Askur Yggdrasils (an old Icelandic roleplaying game)
* and some homebrews
I have also mastered many sessions.
To me, roleplaying is all about character interaction and development (and not about hacking up monsters to earn xp and loot). What I find most entertaining is to be in other (different) people's shoes. Particularly if the character is flawed in some way. I prefer long campaigns with regular (1/week?) sessions.
Again, if you are looking for players, or know someone who might, then please send me a message.
Cheers,
Willard.
