The Starship Excalibur
A Lasers & Feelings campaign inspired by Star Trek TOS, space opera anime, and the Scientology Sea Org of the classic era under Hubbard.
The campaign is focused on the voyages of the starship Excalibur under Captain Elron Hubble, an all-around genius and founder of the science of Galacto-Energetics. The stated mission of the ship is to battle the forces of Entropy and restore balance to the Galactic Energy, but the truth is that the captain is on the run from the Star Federation tax authorities. The player characters are children, 12-13 years old, who serve as the ship’s officers, relaying the commands of the captain to the adult crew members.

Scenarios
- As the Excalibur docks at a large space station to resupply and possibly recruit new crew members, Entropy agents, in the form of the tax authorities, show up! Can the PCs find the necessary supplies and escape before being caught?
- While fleeing Federation starships, a sudden malfunction in the warp engines leaves the Excalibur stranded in an unknown star system. Beneath the crust of the nearest planet is a deposit of khyber-crystals that could be used to repair the ship's engines. Unfortunately, excavating the crystals will destroy the habitat of a tribe of humanoids, but if they don’t hurry up, the agents of Entropy might find them.
- The adult crew members have secretly had a drunken party in the cargo bay during which they happened to break the ship's tractor beam projector. Now, the crew is in turmoil as members of Engineering and Security are trying to pass the blame on each other. As the captain has locked himself in his quarters and is not answering, the player characters will have to resolve the situation themselves.
- A strange space god, part cyclops-squid and part protoplasmic comet, soars through the interstellar abyss. The crew is fearful, but the Captain insists on making a rendezvous to extract its essence. As the Excalibur closes in, the entity manifests an avatar aboard the starship capable of mimicking the appearance of crew members as it tries to understand who they are and what they want.
- The Excalibur suffers a crisis as the Captain falls into a mysterious coma. Clues in the captain’s quarters point toward a planet on the edge of known space. There, the PCs find a colony made up of the Captain’s original disciples who have become apostates and formed a splinter sect. They can help free the Captain from his coma, but it is obvious that they are heretics and that consorting with them is equal to treason. One of the apostates claims to be the mother of one of the PCs, but according to the captain, their parents all died in a tragic accident! The game ends with the pivotal decision wether or not to wake the Captain from his coma.
