An experimental class of Caretaker droid built by the
Kuura Design Bureau millennia ago, the Mark VII was used chiefly by the
Herglic civilisation and by the
Agricultural,
Educational and
Exploration Corps of the old
Jedi Order. These droids were extremely durable and able to perform a variety of tasks, but soon got replaced in the galaxy at large by cheaper, more specialized droids. However, the proprietary Herglic technology that went into their construction proved to be of high quality indeed, and many thousands of years later, some Mark VII droids are still active in the galaxy. Being able to repair and even upgrade themselves, they possess exceptional longevity and determination to continue to pursue the goals of their programming, and an especially notorious, rogue group of these droids controls the orphanage planet of
Argus, having done so for millennia.
But as their numbers have inevitably dwindled, the caretakers of Argus have been forced to deal with workloads and problems that were never part of their programming, and their once benevolent, patient demeanor has given way to ruthlessness, paranoia, and increasingly erratic impulses aimed at making the children under their care survival-minded and strong. Still, their primary directive remains intact, and they'll use deadly force against anyone or anything who threatens to harm their children - or take them away before they've come of age (unless a formal adoption agreement has been signed).
