    Pendragon?

Our experience as well. This is an actual problem because when a character dies, you are often very unlikely to have any family member of age.

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

This makes me think about swinginess in games as well. Rolemaster, in our experience, was very random. While two heavily armored characters could often trade blows all day, often enough a battle was over in one swing. Meanwhile HT (for us at least) tended to be fairly predictable. After a few...

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

I think you may be on to something here as well and thinking about it, I think that matches my experience as well. "Description fatigue" sets in fast I think. I think in HT, most battles were in the 5ish rounds range. In Harn, it was usually only 3 or so. Call of Cthulhu we've ironically had a...

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

So I agree with you on that. It's interesting to me, because in Runequest, a straight-up fight is not that common. Most of the fights we have had starts with characters throwing spears or sling stones at each other while a few spells get zapped. Once you close in, you should already have the...

    Pendragon?

On the topic of winter: A friend of mine calculated that the chances of death in childbirth / dead children was actually higher than what historians think in real life, so we made two changes: Children don't roll for survival once they have hit 5 years old. The wife gets a CON test if the test...

Or drop a rock on his head from the top of a tower :)

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

That feels like a decent baseline to me. Maybe 3-4 if defeat is taken a bit more broadly (most combatants will be too seriously wounded to continue fighting rather than slain outright).

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

Now we're getting somewhere :) How many attacks SHOULD it take to kill a character wearing armor and a shield?

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

I agree with posters who said armor is part of the problem, though two-handed weapons will break through most armor just fine. In real life, as plate armors became common, shields fell by the wayside :) The follow up question to people: What percentage of attacks from an enemy should hit the...

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

Oh sure, I am just adding a perspective that doesnt tend to come up that often :) But while perceptions are all subjective, the rules themselves are objective: If we know what a rule is, then statistics and probability tells us what will happen.

    "Ping-pong" in DoD. Over-stated as a problem.

To get this out of the way first: A: What is Ping-pong? This is the potential for combat to be a series of "I attack he parries, he attacks I parry" where nothing happens. B: Ping-pong is usually a factor of: Moderate-to-high parry chance, little consequence of parrying and being able to parry...

    Pendragon?

If it's any consolation, the money stuff is convoluted, there's multiple replacement systems that are more convoluted and the game isn't supposed to be about money in any event. We assume that a small domain gives you 1 libra in actual cash per year and then used the improvements from one of the...

NYHET Fria Ligan förlag ger ut nytt Drakar och Demoner

I was kinda gearing up to do DoD16 either in the fall or early next year when one of my games have ended, but now I'm not sure if we'll just wait or not.

Var-anka. It's a duck but on a full moon, it turns into a bigger, meaner duck.

All ducks. Different kinds of ducks but all ducks.

I'd be down for a Whelan-homage on the cover. Get something new while also having a nod to the classics.

There is a PDF out there from Chaosium that adds stats for more characters but there's a ton missing for sure.

So have people started posting their wish lists yet? :) I hope: *Cosmopolitan fantasy (lots of different critters to play, karkion, vargs, ducks, kat people, dudes who turn into deer, minotaurs) *Set in or supported by an actual classic-feeling Ereb Altor book. *I would be fine if they dropped...
